About Us
Vision
Our vision for the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program is to be a catalyst for a sustainable and equitable healthcare system, where every individual has access to necessary medical equipment and PPE, and the distribution of resources is optimized to meet the needs of all communities. We strive to empower the next generation of healthcare leaders with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to tackle systemic issues related to medical waste and accessibility. Through collaborative efforts with healthcare institutions, community clinics and organizations, our program aims to bridge the gap between surplus and shortage, ultimately creating a more efficient and compassionate healthcare system for all. Our ultimate goal is to see our program becoming a permanent solution to address non-hazardous waste and serve marginalized communities, and inspire other organizations to follow suit.

Why I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program?
The amount of medical supplies being discarded each year is such a waste of resources and being involved in the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program is a way I can tangibly help reduce the number of supplies being discarded.

So many people are in need of medical supplies, yet tons go to waste every year. I love the elegancy of the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L Program's solution to redistribute that excess, aiding people in need while making the medical field more sustainable.

Why I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program?
Throughout all my clinical experiences in healthcare, I have seen the enormous amount of supplies go to waste due to issues like over stocking and supplies simply not being used, among other things. I also see the populations who may not have that leisure of having enough supplies and are struggling to maintain a constant inventory to provide safe and holistic care to individuals in need. As a refugee myself and now working with refugee and immigrant populations, there is a lot of hesitancy surrounding healthcare due to such factors. The Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L programs allows us to bridge this gap while promoting sustainability and thinking about ways to become more efficient with the way these supplies are being used.

Why I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program?
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I was always surrounded by beautiful nature and scenery. This first made me passionate about the environment and recycling in high school and undergrad, leading me to volunteer extensively in sustainability based non-profits. Coming to medical school, I was completely unaware of the sheer amount of waste that is the produced by everyday medical practice. I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L program since it addresses the problem of medical waste, which can have profound benefits on the environment, while also allowing for cost savings which can help drive more equitable medical care. Being able to serve a larger population while also doing good to the environment is a true win-win and I am grateful to be a part of this program.

Why I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program?
Sustainability in general is such an important concept that I think we, as humans, need to be cognizant of because of the way that we contribute to it and also experience the effects of. As someone who intends to have a career as a physician, the role of sustainability within medicine is important to me. In so many communities across the world, there is a lack of medical supplies and, in contrast, there are also many communities with a surplus of supplies that run the risk of being wasted. I'm passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. program because it builds a bridge between these contrasting experiences and solves two problems at once by relocating medical supplies that are in a surplus to areas with a great need of such supplies, thereby ensuring that there is greater sustainability within medicine.

Something unique bout myself:
I love the moon, and my sister informed me recently that there is a word for this: selenophile. The moon is a pretty important symbol in my faith (Islam) and culture (Pakistani), and beyond that I really enjoy looking at the moon and capturing it in art, it's really comforting and captivating for me. A glowing orb in the sky that changes shapes throughout each month, what's not to love?

Why I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program?
As a medical student, I am passionate about improving access to healthcare for underserved communities. The Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program aligns with this passion by providing a valuable service of redistributing unused health equipment to those who need it most. This program not only helps bridge the healthcare gap in underserved communities but also contributes to reducing medical waste. By being a part of the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program, I have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals who would otherwise lack access to proper healthcare equipment.

Woodworking has always been a passion of mine, especially turning wood on a lathe. I have recently started incorporating resin into my pieces, adding a unique character to the piece. My most memorable projects have been those that began with no specific vision in mind - allowing the wood to speak for itself.

Why I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program?
Before joining Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L., I did not have much exposure to the importance of sustainability in general and actually became interested in the field because one of my roommates is pursuing a sustainability major. I remember her bringing a compost bin to our kitchen for food scraps and eventually seeing these bins all around campus. As an aspiring healthcare professional, I have come to realize that sustainability is just as important in the medical field. Whether that is ensuring the proper disposal of hazardous and medical waste or aiming to bridge the gap between surplus and shortage of supplies, I am grateful to be a part of the work we do here at Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Through my role in our curriculum development team, I am hopeful that we can help educate more individuals about this cause.

Why I am passionate about the Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. Program?
Throughout my undergraduate years, I had experience founding and running a cost-free clinic and came to realize the large barriers associated with securing supplies to operate the clinic. I saw Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. as an initiative that fulfills a large gap within the community clinics realm. Medical R.E.N.E.W.A.L. allowed me to expand my work within cost-free clinics within my community and across the world.
